Required books for 2nd semester

Reading List Second semester

I will do a group order for the books that we will use this semester. You can let me know if you want these books by the first class and pay for them then. The price will be $15.00 for all the books. Your children are welcome to share if you have more than one student in the class. You are also welcome to check out the books from the library.--contact Carol Burke about the books

Jan. 8, 15: Poetry Unit: Walt Whitman-Leaves of Grass; Longfellow-Hiawatha and Paul Revere’s Ride; John Greenleaf Whittier-Mrs. Burke will provide selected works

Jan. 29, Feb. 5: Mark Twain: The Prince and the Pauper

Feb 12, Feb. 19: Stephen Crane: Red Badge of Courage

Feb 26, March 5: W.E.B. Dubois: Souls of Black Folk: Essays and Sketches

March 12, 19: Jack London: Call of the Wild

March 26 and continue over break: Willa Cather: O Pioneers (order from Mrs. B. or get from library)

April 16, 23: Poetry Unit: Robert Frost; Carl Sandburg; T.S. Eliot; Edna St. Vincent Millay; Ezra Pound, ee cummings, William Carlos Williams (Mrs. Burke will provide selections)

April 30, May 7: to be decided-this will be included in the book price above (I need to talk to the parents about this possibility).

Research Paper class:
Please order the following book: The Nuts and Bolts of College Writing by Michael Harvey for class. It is available on Amazon.com for $7.50. If this poses a financial hardship for you, please let Carol Burke know as she has a copy or two.

Science, 4th-6th grades:

All students will need the book "Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day: Exploring Creation with Zoology 1" by Jeannie Fulbright. This is published by Apologia, the same company this semester's Botany book is from.
