Book and Supply Lists



Please check this post periodically to see what books and supplies your students will need for classes this year. I will be adding to the list as I receive this information from teachers. If you don't see information for a class, please contact the teacher to ask about it. Thanks!

*I have noted supply fees.  For costs/copy fees of non-membership classes, please see the class descriptions.

Core 9-12

History:
The New History of The World by J.M. Roberts (make sure the edition you buy says “New History”. This is a big, hardcover book, but you should be able to find it at a reasonable price. It is the ONLY required book for history. ISBN: 978-0195219272

Literature:

Students will also need a 2" 3-ring binder with dividers and lined paper.

Science 1-3
We will study rocks and minerals.  Students will need the following supplies:

crayons
colored pencils
1 or 2 rocks to identify (place in a sandwich bag labelled with your name)
1 bag of soil from home (place in labeled sandwich bag, don't over fill so it doesn't spill out)
1 bag of sand from beaches you go to over the summer (label with your name and where you found it)
Magnet (if you already have one, don't buy)
sifter (to sift sand particles)
Large clear glass jars (can be recycled, approximately quart size)
sea shells (if you can pick up at the beach or have some, don't buy them)
modeling clay
droppers (recycled from children's liquid medicines)
long-necked plastic/glass bottles (recycled from salad dressing or syrup bottles)
baking chips (I will assign, as we will need different colors)

Label what you can with the child's name.  Recycled items will be thrown out at the end of the semester, unless you request otherwise.

There is also a $5 supply fee.

Mrs. Gleiter is checking into a field trip at Cave of the Mounds in Blue Mounds, WI.  They have group rates for educational programs.  www.caveofthemounds.com  There will be more information on this.


Astronomy (Science 4-6)
Text- Exploring Creation with Astronomy by Jeannie Fulbright (this is part of the Apologia series)

3 ring binder (1")
lined paper; approximately 25 sheets, inserted in binder
blank white (computer) paper; approximately 15 pages (hole-punched and inserted in binder)

Read chapter 1 in Astronomy textbook
Answer questions on page 8 of text, "What do you remember?" questions

There is a $20 supply fee per semester.

General Science, Grades 7-8
Text- Exploring Creation with General Science (there are two editions of this book, students must have the first edition)
3 ring binder divided into 5 sections with colored tabs.
Label the tabs as follows:
1. Vocabulary
2. On Your Own
3. Study Guide
4. Experiments
5. Tests

You will also need the materials listed in the textbook for each week's experiments.  The items are primarily household items.  If you would like, you can purchase a lab kit from Christianbook.com that contains most of the items.  This sells for $74.99.  (The lab kit is designed to go with the 2nd edition of the book, but the experiments are extremely similar to the first edition.)

There is also a $20 fee for supplies the instructor will be supplying.

Writing 9-12
Text- Format Writing by Frode Jensen. ISBN 978-1886061293.
Students will also need a 1 inch binder for writing, index cards (for research papers in second semester), black ink pens, pencils, access to a computer with internet availability, a good thesaurus and dictionary, and a copy of MLA stylebook. (can be printed from an online source).

Writing 6-8
All supplies listed above minus index cards and MLA stylebook.

Writing 4-5
There will not be a textbook for this class. We will be using handouts. Because of this, it is very important for your students to have a 2 inch binder with dividers. (Just buy a package of them and place them in the binder for now-we will organize during class). PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD BRING THIS TO CLASS EVERY WEEK AS THIS WILL BE THEIR TEXT. In addition to this, they will need at least two sharpened pencils and one black pen during class time. A good dictionary, thesaurus and access to a computer with a word processing program, preferably Microsoft Word, is also important. They don’t have to bring the reference books to class each week. I will tell them when they need them.
