This is a college-prep course that provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology.  Emphasis will be placed on vocabulary, the scientific method, the five kingdom classification scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems, with lab experiments completed both at home and in class.

Course expectations: Students will be expected to keep a Lab Journal and perform some labs at home, recording their findings in the journal, and bringing them to class each week to share their experiences.  Worksheets will be handed out to be completed at home and brought back to class for grading and credit.  As we are only meeting once a week, heavy emphasis will be placed on reading assignments from the text, as time will be limited and lectures condensed to strike on the most important information.  Study guides will be handed out ahead of time so students can prepare for tests.  As this is a college prep course, students will be expected to have ALL assignments completed and the reading done before class starts each Friday.
