MATH
Introductory Algebra
Requirements: A solid understanding of basic math concepts
Teacher: Kristine Brown
Fee: $90.00 per semester plus $20 supply fee

This is an excellend class to bridge between elementary math and Algebra I.  We will begin learning Algebra concepts and will cover them in depth with LOTS and LOTS of practice.  This course focuses on the beginning Algebra concepts that, with successful completion, will assist students in easier and more complete learning in future math courses.  If these concepts are not covered and understood thoroughly students may likely struggle in successive math courses.
Daily homework will be completed with parent grading and stufdent corrections, contacting teacher as necessary for complete understanding.  Class periods will focus on new material to ensure adequate concept completion.  Possibility of home-parent administered tests.

Book: Introductory Algebra, An Applied Approach  Fifth Edition by Aufmann, Barker, Lockwood (Houghton Mifflin)
 ISBN:  0-395-90706-3

Algebra II
Requirements: A solid understanding of basic math concepts through successful completion of Algebra coursework
Teacher: Kristine Brown
Fee: $90.00 per semester

This is a thorough Algebra II course which will also include Trigonometry, as time allows.  We will focus on learning the concepts and where the numbers come from as well as what they mean so that students understand the concepts fully. Calculators may be used, as I allow, but we will not be using graphing calculators or programming in this course.  Students need to understand and use their brains, then calculators may assist later.

Coursework for grade calculation will be minimal.  Daily homework will be completed with parent grading and student corrections, contacting teacher as necessary for complete understanding.  Tests and reviews will be the main means of grade accumulation so homework understanding is of great importance.  I advise parents to monitor the homework and make sure that the students are understanding and asking questions when necessary.  Class periods will focus on new material to ensure adequate concept completion.  Possibility of home-parent administered tests.

Book: Merrill Algebra Two with Trigonometry, by Foster, Rath, Winters
 ISBN:  0-675-05616-0

NOTE: There may be times when class will need to meet an additional day per week.

Geometry
Requirements: A solid understanding of basic math concepts through successful completion of an Introductory or Pre-Algebra course. Algebra I completion is recommended.

Teacher: Kristine Brown
Fee: $90 per semester plus a $20 supply for answer key

Daily homework will be completed wtih parent grading and student corrections, contacting teacher as necessary for complete understanding.  Class periods will focus on new material to ensure adequate concept completion.  Possibility of home-parent administered tests.

NOTE: There may be times when Geometry will need to meet an additional day per week. There will be an added charge for additional class days.  Any extra meeting days and their fees will be discussed with and agreed upon with parents.

Mrs. Brown has an engineering degree and worked in that field for 10 years prior to homeschooling.  She has taught math classes at Sacred Heart Classical Center and Annunciation Coop and has tutored for several years--homeschoolers as well as private and public school students--with great success.

WRITING
Writing
Grades: 5-8 (4 if proficient reader)
Teacher: Colleen Schroepfer
Supply fee: $15.00 per semester

This course will be geared to the beginning and intermediate writer.  We shall start with creating a well written sentence.  After that is mastered, we will learn what is necessary for writing a good paragraph.  The three basic elements of writing: content, style, and mechanics will be introduced and refined.  Basic grammar will be reviewed especially as it applied to writing.

Advanced Writing
Grades: 7-8
Teacher: Theresa Ambrose
Fee: $40.00 per semester

Andrew Pudewa's Excellence in Writing course will walk us through an easy approach to writing paragraphs and essays that when complete sound intellectual. There is a format that will be used throughout the whole year that will strengthen structure and give confidence with style. It is our hopes as home educators to cultivate a love for learning. This program does that with writing. I've been teaching this method in my home-school for 10 years and believe it to be an answer to prayer with  my limited experience in writing.

The class limit is 8

Theater Class
Ages 9 and up
Teacher: Toni Cermak

First semester -  We will be working on writing, performing and filming a Catholic themed film to inspire other teens to be part of the Catholic Church.  We will be looking at other videos by Outside DA Box and Spirit Juice Studios, to get ideas and discuss how to effectively interact on film with others.

Second Semester - We will be working on a play/musical to perform at end of year. We will be doing all scenery, props, costumes and acting, so come ready to work and dive into the theater.  We will do tryouts at beginning of the school year so dances can be worked on all year to be perfected in ballet class.

Cost: price for your own costume and props which you can keep at end of show.

Please note:
Most classes will have minumum and maximum enrollments.  Those will be noted on the registration forms for each class.
