Qualifications for Admission

To qualify for admission to classes at Annunciation Co-op, parents must have prepared their children for the responsibility of serious scholarship (or study) in a disciplined atmosphere. The students have only a couple of hours per week to be instructed by their tutors, and therefore the time they are with their instructors is very valuable. No time can afford to be wasted in dealing with basic formation of a moral conscience and civilized behavior. For this reason we expect all prospective students to be well-trained students before arriving for their first day of class.
  1. Annunciation Catholic Homeschool Co-operative does not discriminate based on race, ethnic, or national origin.  The Co-op is open to Catholics and non-Catholics, but parents or prospective students should be aware that the Co-op operates based on the belief that the ultimate foundation of knowledge is the Catholic Faith as revealed by God and interpreted and taught by the Magisterium of the Church throughout the ages.
  2. Annunciation Co-op classes are open only to children who have had the benefit of homeschooling for a minimum of one year.  It is apparent to all experienced homeschooling families that the anti-social behaviors and belligerent attitudes learned by children at public schools (and even some private schools) are detrimental to the collective atmosphere of the classroom, to say nothing of personal character.  Therefore the prospective student must have at least one year of proper training at home before he will be considered properly socialized.
  3. As a prerequisite to acceptance in an Annunciation Co-op class, the prospective student must submit either a Letter of Recommendation from an Annunciation Co-op member in good standing for a minimum of one year, or two Letters of Reference from non-related adults who are well acquainted with the child.  In either case, the letter must address the child's character, known past behavior, positive or negative, especially in relation to the academic setting, and his academic performance, as well as any other relevant aspects of the child's academic and social history.
  4. It is essential that parents of prospective students be prepared to help their child gain the greatest benefit from classes at Annunciation Co-op.  The commitment the Co-op expects from parents will entail.
  • The parents must be certain their child meets the above-mentioned qualifications.
  • The parents must be able to describe their child as an independent and enthusiastic learner who is capable of the work and willing to participate
  • The parents must support the dress code of Annunciation Co-op
  • The parents must pay for the classes as agreed upon with the tutors.  In the event that the students does not attend the classes, the parents are still responsible for payment for every class!  Payments made in advance are non-refundable.
  • The parents should be realistic when considering the number of classes their child will take.  They should take into account the material to be covered, the learning level to which the class is directed, and the goals of the tutor as they relate to their child.
  • It is the responsibility of the parents to keep in close contact with the tutors concerning the performance of their student.  Ideally, the parents should be involved with teaching their student the Co-op class material through the week.  At the very least, the parents should keep abreast of the weekly assignments and communicate with their student frequently regarding the classes.
Code of Conduct and Discipline
  1. The student will obey the authority of his superiors in all matters.  The tutors expect and deserve nothing less than full respect and obedience from every students in their classes.  The tutors will have the authority to enforce the Annunciation Co-op Rules of Conduct as well as their own individualized classroom policy and discipline for the maintenance of order.
  2. Parents should be aware that disobedience, disrespect, failure to compete work, failure to meet dress code, habitual tardiness or unexcused absences, dishonestly (including cheating), foul language, and inappropriate behavior may result in the child's suspension immediately (the day it occurs).  Two warnings will be given which may or may not result in suspension from class.  In the event of a suspension, the parents will be responsible for the immediate removal of their student from the Co-op premises.  A third infraction will result in expulsion and the child will not be accepted in any future Annunciation Co-op classes.
  3. The Annunciation Co-op Steering Committee has the authority to make final decisions on matters of admission and discipline.  Parents should also be aware that these guidelines are intended to protect their children, and the Committee, tutors and parents must work together to insure an atmosphere that is conducive to learning for everyone.
